There are three ways in which you can become a Monaco resident and be entitled to the residency card know as ‘le carte de Sejour’ - If you are employed or have been offered to work for a Monegasque company within the principality of Monaco
- If you are wanting to set up a new business in Monaco, in which case the residency will only be given once the company has been officially registered.
- If you can prove that you have a certain net wealth and can leave a minimum capital balance in your Monaco account. This amount is at the discretion of the Monaco bank.
The application procedure depends on whether or not you are a citizen within the European Community. For citizens within the EC the procedure is fairly simple. The applicant must go to the Foreign residents section of the 'Sureté Publique' in Monaco and fill out the relevant forms where you will have to fill in your personal details along with a CV that explains your past and present job experience. You will also be required to produce the following for your file: · - 4 photographs·
- A recent extract of your birth certificate or your original birth certificate·
- If you have been married / divorced / widowed in the past, any decree / death certificate
- ·A certified copy of your passport or ID ·
- A copy of your rental contract or an attestation ( copy of the title deeds) to state that you are the owner of the property in Monaco.·
- A police report, stating that you have had no prior incidences from the former country that you were living in as well as your country of birth. In the UK this can be done by sending off a cheque for 10£ to the Metropolitan Police Authority.·
- A working contract for Monaco, if you have one or an letter from your Monaco bank stating sufficient funds to enable you to be a resident in Monaco. ·
- A utility bill indicating your current address
Once all of the above have been submitted you may have to wait around 6 weeks and then you will be required to make an appointment with the Monaco police where you will have to be interviewed. If the interview goes well then they will issue your card normally within 3 weeks. Your first residency card will be valid for 12 months only. At the end of the 12 months you will be called in for a second interview and the authorities have the right to extend or not your residency or not for a further 12 months. For citizens outside the European Community the process is slightly different. All applicants must first apply for a French visa at the French consulate at which the person is then resident. The application procedure is then very much as above apart from if the person does not have proof of accommodation then a letter of intent will suffice saying that the you intend to find accommodation within 3 moths of the submitting for the forms above. |
